Industrial Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation

Industry has had a strong interest in reduction and prevention of work place injuries. San Luis Sports Therapy and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, Delta Physical Therapy & Physical Thearpy Center, integrates four essential components for achievement of work injury reduction (and lowering Workers' Compensation costs). The prevention or reduction of the severity of work place injuries, and the rapid return to work, can be accomplished with the following:
  1. Education
  2. Ergonomics
  3. ADA Compliant Pre-work Screening
  4. Aggressive Rehabilitation

Education:
To reduce or eliminate injuries associated with repetitive performance or critical work tasks.

Ergonomics:
Job Task Analysis of work sites to determine repetitive motions, materials handled, and production requirements will enable management to identify specific guidelines and modifications to lower potential risk factors. Job Task Analysis assists the rehabilitation efforts by providing clear objective goals during rehabilitation.

Pre-Work Screening:
Pre-Work Screening, which adheres to the ADA and EEOC guidelines, tests applicants in a nondiscriminatory way utilizing essential job functions. Our pre-work screens focus on function and have assisted local industry in reducing and eliminating injuries.

Rehabilitation:
The goal of any rehabilitation program is the return to work in a timely fashion. Studies have shown that the longer an employee is off work due to an injury, the less likely he/she is to return to the same level of employment. This problem is compounded by both ineffective rehabilitation protocols and delays in getting the injured worker to Physical Therapy. San Luis Sports Therapy and Orthopedic Rehabilitation's Industrial Program overcomes these obstacles by implementing some of the following steps as early as possible:

1. Assessment of Injury
  • Baseline Evaluation to identify musculoskeletal deficits.
  • Functional Capacity Evaluations assess the extent of musculoskeletal deficits that affect the performance of essential job functions.

2. Acute Therapy
  • Decrease pain
  • Improve Function
  • Progress to work conditioning and simulation

3. Work Conditioning and Simulation
This is a progression of acute therapy, which takes into account the essential functions of the employees' job description and focuses on the following:
  • Increase function and strength
  • Improve or maintain total body conditioning
  • Biomechanics while performing job tasks
  • Progressively increasing simulated work tasks to demonstrate the ability to safely execute job activities

Our licensed professionals have extensive experience with work related injuries. Our aggressive therapy programs promote healing and insure speedy return to work. To further reduce the chances of re-injury, our therapists educate employees about safe work practices and encourage continued strengthening exercises through post-rehabilitation conditioning.
