Staying Healthy during the COVID-19 Pandemic

As we enter this uncertain time during the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many articles & posts advising community members on how to support their local businesses at this time. We have seen websites such as #AshevilleStrong and LoveHendo pop up, allowing us the opportunity to support our neighboring businesses by purchasing gift cards. At Specialized Physical Therapy, we are proud to be part of a community that pulls together in times of hardship. 

Physical therapy is a necessary treatment for many of our patients. Our Parkinson’s community relies on physical therapy to maintain their symptoms, and post-op patients utilize physical therapy to regain needed strength and mobility. 

We hope you will continue to support local businesses at this time - including your physical therapists. We also want our patients to remember to care for themselves, and not discontinue that care in light of current circumstances. Here are some ways you can do both. 

  1. Uncomfortable with in-person appointments? Switch to Telehealth. Unless you are advised to do so by your doctor, we don’t recommend canceling your appointments at this time. Instead, call your clinic to change your appointments to video appointments, in order to safely continue your plan of care. (Keep in mind, we are open and treating patients in-clinic based on need & patient history. Learn more here.)

  2. Write an online review. As is the case for other local businesses, reviews on platforms such as Google, Yelp, and Facebook will help our business stay strong during and after this pandemic. 

  3. Maintain your Home Exercise Program. For our current and past patients, keeping up with your Home Exercise Program is crucial. If you are practicing social distancing, stay active throughout your day by doing the home exercises your physical therapist has given you, and use this time to work on your strength and mobility.   4. Virtually connect with workout buddies. Stay motivated by keeping your workout buddies accountable. If you typically work out in a gym or with a group, check out these local fitness spots that are now offering virtual classes.

  5. Reach out to us. In times of need, we must band together. Our physical therapists are available to answer any questions you may have regarding your health during this time. Please reach out to any of our four clinics and let us know how we can help!
